Welcome to Fragmenta Help
Fragmenta is an application for generating static websites, which can then be uploaded to the site of your choice. You can produce a simple weblog, an image gallery with slideshow, or more complicated sites.
Introduction
You can do the following things easily with Fragmenta :
- Create a well structured website without using HTML
- Generate lists of items (for a weblog or elsewhere)
- Create links to other pages, lists and tables without using HTML
- Structure your website by dragging folders around, and links update automatically
- Generate picture galleries with thumbnails and images resized for the web
- Generate a weblog or other dynamic content locally for putting on a static webserver
- Use it with .mac or your ISP webspace – no need to install anything on the server
There are several example sites supplied with the application (available if you choose ‘New Site’ from the File Menu). By default a full site will be chosen for you. To get started, just try editing the first text file in the folder, and build the site to see the results.
Fragmenta Basics
Your website is made up from the contents of the ‘Content’ folder, which consists of text files and images, inside a hierarchy of folders which mirrors that of your site. When it generates a site, Fragmenta runs through the Content folder constructing Fragments for each of the items within it. Those lists of fragments are then turned into pages (usually one per folder), in the top level Website directory, using HTML templates inside the top level Style directory.
You can add pictures to fragments by putting a picture in the same folder as the fragment .txt file (inside Content), with exactly the same name. To learn more about adding pictures, see Images.
