Software for OS X

Current Software

Below are the projects I'm currently working on. Progress here is a bit sporadic as I only update these projects when I have time to work on them. HumaxGui is a build of an application originally for Windows which now works on OS X.

  • Balzac 1.0 b29

Balzac is an email application for OS X 10.4 and above, which aims to provide clear views on your mail whilst allowing fast, sophisticated searches of past correspondence. It has been written to utilise all the advanced services available in OS X, from the address book to the built in spell-checker.

    • Screenshots

Here are some screenshots of Balzac - searches, HTML messages and other features are shown.

  • Contrepoint 1.0

Contrepoint is an application for OS X, written in Ruby, which allows you to create websites from a simple collection of folders with text files and images in them. So you can go from a set of text files and jpegs to this webpage at the click of a button.

  • DG-100 Reader

DG-100 reader is a simple little OS X application which reads files from the US GlobalSat DG-100 on OS X. This allows you to avoid the annoying Windows software bundled by USGlobalSat. You can download all your recent points all in one go, see how much space is used, and optionally delete tracks from the device at the same time. The .gpx file produced is then opened in your default application for .gpx files (I use GPSPhotoLinker to tag images).

  • Fragmenta 2.2

Fragmenta is a new version of Contrepoint - coming soon.

  • SpeakTime 3.4

SpeakTime is a speaking clock application for OS X 10.3.9 and up. It allows you to schedule spoken reminders in the voice and volume of your choice, show multiple desktop clocks with different time-zones, and speak the time in a more sophisticated manner than the system clock. There is also an optional animated dock icon. Below is a screenshot of some of the desktop clock styles available. For what's new in the latest version see the Version History below.

Other Software

  • HumaxGUI

  • HumaxGui is an application for transferring video files from a Humax PVR to your computer. The GUI app was written by Andrew Smith, based on code by Andy Chappell. Until it appears on his web page, you can download an OS X port, bundling the required libraries, using the link below. This version is a Universal binary and works on OS X 10.3.9 and above. Download

Code

  • HumaxGUI

  • You can download the modified HumaxGui (see above for binary) code here. This code is for a Universal binary and works on OS X 10.3.9 and above, but does require QT 4.1.2 installed to build. The build script takes care of merging the required frameworks into the bundle. Download

Scripts etc

  • InDesign image gallery

  • InDesign Image Gallery is a small script for creating an image gallery with InDesign CS - given a folder of images it will place them, along with file-name labels, into any template you create. Some sample templates are included.
  • Quark scripts

  • You can also download some older scripts for Quark 4.1 for constructing a picture gallery from a folder of images, counting words in documents etc. They're saved as text so you can see the source and modify them.
